About Julie Byrd
Julie was born in Memphis in
1964. Her mother was an elementary school teacher. Her father was an electrical engineer. She graduated from Wooddale
High School in 1982 and attended The University of
Tennessee at Knoxville for one year, completing her
Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at The University of Memphis. She
earned her Juris Doctorate (law degree) from The University of Memphis in 1989.
Julie has lived in Tipton County since 1988. Julie has three children, two dogs and one cat. Her eldest son, Fred, will graduate from Munford High School in 2008.
She is an avid University of Tennessee Volunteer football fan; is actively involved in Munford Cub Scout Pack 66 and Tipton County Girl Scouts; Julie is also a member of the board of directors of the Tipton County Commission on Aging.
A lifelong Democrat, Julie serves as an officer in the Tipton County Democratic Party.
A member of the Episcopal Diocese of West Tennessee since 1992, Julie currently serves children in her parish as a Sunday School teacher.
In nearly two decades of practicing law,
Julie has attended numerous conferences, continuing law
education seminars (required of all attorneys each year),
and many specialty training seminars. In 1995 Julie
completed 40 hours of training in mediation. In 2001 Julie completed a 150 hour internship with the Domestic Violence Assessment Program administered by the Exchange Clubs Family Centers in Memphis. In 2002 Julie
completed 39 hours toward a Master of Science degree in mental health counseling at The University of Memphis. In 2005 Julie completed a three-day seminar in elder law.
Julie is a member of the following professional and bar associations: Tennessee Bar Association; Mississippi Bar Association; Memphis Bar Association; Tipton County Bar Association.
A family lawyer, Julie has chosen to limit her practice of law to the areas of; estate planning; divorce; non-divorce child custody, visitation and support; post-divorce matters and modifications; and bankruptcy. Julie practices in all courts in Tipton, Fayette and Shelby Counties and in the Chancery Court in Desoto County, Mississippi.
